DE commit looking elsewhere? WWCPJD?
Per Rivals.com, Georgia Tech DE commit Darrius Caldwell is currently on a surprise official visit this weekend to the University of Illinois. This has been reconfirmed by insiders on the Illinois Scout board.
Will the man of "character and commitment" Coach Paul Johnson now IMMEDIATELY pull Caldwell's scholarship as he did with 2009 QB recruit Dontae Aycock? In case you've forgotten, here are a few tidbits regarding what "commitment" supposedly meant to Johnson at the time.
If Tech loses Caldwell, it would be a stunning blow following the drama of Stephon Tuitt earlier this week. Caldwell is rated a 5.7 and ranked the 23rd best DE recruit in the country according to Rivals. He has been committed to Tech since mid-August and could possibly be the second DE prospect to decommit in the last week. His loss would be disastrous to what has already been a thoroughly disappointing class.
With QB commit Vad Lee's intentions of visiting other schools apparently finished, this development may finally provide the insight many Tech fans have been seeking into the truth behind the facade of "high character" and "morality" which has been so finely constructed by Johnson and his boot-licking supporters.

OMG!!! It would be stunning!!! I don't know if we could even play the season next year if we lost Caldwell?
ReplyDeleteYou really seem bitter about this Aycock Rule thing? Did PJ recruit you out of HS or something? Is that why you hate him so much?
Being the great GT man that you are I am curious to know who you like to see at the helm of the GT Football program?
It's hilarious how the slurpers always try to pare every new issue down as if it were some isolated incident completely unconnected with anything else. Losing Caldwell would be only the latest in what's been an accumulation of failings this recruiting season.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Aycock Rule, it's likewise funny how CPJ supporters laud the policy and use it as some kind of moral high ground up until Johnson suddenly stops using it. Then they start arguing that it was never a big deal and that it's no longer worth mentioning, and they of course refuse to call out Johnson on his hypocrisy.
The last point is silly and exactly what Gailey backers always said. There is a variety of fine head coaching prospects to choose from every offseason. Just this past year Tech could potentially have had names like Gus Malzahn, Dana Holgorsen, Brady Hoke(who may have taken the Tech job before Michigan's search began), and so forth. If you'll remember, we had Will Muschamp sealed and delivered until he was rejected by the athletic board at the last second for being a UGA grad. Looks like he's a pretty good coach to be so highly valued by programs like Florida and Texas.
Lots of fish in the sea, many of which are willing to run an offense that uses more than one formation, can pull in the occasional top 25 recruiting class, and can assemble a staff capable of coaching half-way acceptable defense and special teams. Oh and many of them probably could have beaten the two worst UGA teams in memory as well.
So we could've had sub .500 (for career as HC) Brady Hoke or an assistant that hasn't won a single game as a HC? I'll take my chances with PJ. He had two of the best years in GT history in 2008 and 2009. We shall see what happens next year. Another 7 lost season and I will be banging the drum with you.
ReplyDeleteYou ignorant MF's just dont get it...getting or loosing 1 or 2 recruits here & there is NOT the issue, the Donte disaster is NOT the issue etc..
ReplyDeleteThe FACTS are the FACTS. We are NOT getting 4/5 star recruits. We loose EVERY recruit to UGA that they want. We loose marginal kids to the NFL.
We scored 7 f'ing points on Airforce for gods sake.
Why is that?
The ONLY answer that makes sense:
The "johnson" is a outright ass.
They hate him.
His offense is PATHETIC & VERY simple to defend.
No defensive player with NFL dreams wants to practice day in and day out against an offense they will NEVER see in the NFL...EVER! They know they will never learn or be taught to rush the passer.
Simply learning to "stay home" or crash the tackle will NOT get it done in the NFL.
Dont even get me started on our lack of a Tight End, bubble screen, competent WR, crossing routes, down & outs...etc....
To anonymous @ 7:57,
ReplyDeleteNo one is a sure thing. But those guys I listed are promising coaching prospects, and there are many to choose from every offseason.
It's true that when you're GT, you're not going to get the Nick Sabans of the world, but there are Jim Harbaughs out there to be found. I feel the direction in which PJ is taking this program is apparent(and destructive) at this point, but you are welcome to your own opinion.
As for the fellow who mentioned why I didn't write a story on Nick Menocal(whose comment I deleted because of the threat in his screenname), it's simply because I don't find him all that exciting a recruit. It was apparent that Miami's new coaching staff did not want him and that we were a fall back option. I will say he's a league better than the Sun Belt fare we have been settling for.
"Georgia Tech added their 22nd commitment for 2011 on Sunday when South Forsyth jumbo athlete Kyle Travis committed to Georgia Tech. The versatile two-way player picked the Jackets over Georgia Southern."
ReplyDeleteOver Georgia Southern. He didn't even have offers from other I-AA schools. I'd be interested in seeing when was the last recruiting class at Tech that was this bad.
